800th game for the heart and soul of the Montreal Canadiens
January 23, 2025 will forever be a milestone in the rich history of the Montreal Canadiens, but more specifically in the career of one of the team's most important players, Brendan Gallagher.
The man who epitomizes the soul of the glorious team with his fighting spirit, courage, determination, hard work and will to win, will play in his 800th career game when the Tricolore travels to Michigan to take on the Detroit Red Wings.
Brendan Gallagher: a man of challenges
Drafted 147th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Brendan Gallagher, at 5'9 and 185 lbs, has never let anything stand in his way. Fearing nothing, not even the sometimes overwhelming pressure of playing in a passionate environment like Montreal, he has spent his entire career with the same club, the Montreal Canadiens. It's increasingly rare to find a player who spends his entire career with the same club. To do so, you need rock-solid loyalty. This solidity manifests itself in many ways. For example, even if he's not the strongest, you'll always find him in front of the net, where he's the most dangerous. The man they call Gally knows only one way to play, and that's pedal to the metal. In 799 games, he racked up 229 goals and 216 assists for a total of 445 points and a +26 +\-.
Quite impressive for a player who was passed over 146 times in the draft and who was told throughout his career that he was too small. He's always been motivated and fuelled by his detractors. He's always thrived on challenges and when the stakes are high.
It's a safe bet that he won't be running out of fuel any time soon....
